Here are a few questions and answers re Speedwatch
Who can be a member of Speedwatch ? – Anyone can be a member. You must take an on line course and receive a certificate.
Where and when can Speedwatch operate ? Speedwatch can only set up at positions that have been risk assessed by Essex Highways. Newport currently has three approved locations. Only one additional location can be added per year. Speedwatch must operate in daylight hours.

Any new sites must satisfy the following criteria:
• Sites are risk assessed in a 30mph or 40mph zone
• At least 100m from any change in speed
• Sites must be visible with safety to volunteers, pedestrians and motorists essential
• Safe place required for volunteers to stand off road and not causing obstructions.
• Site must be on public land, not in a private driveway
• Where there are no pavements, grass verges and village greens can be used providing volunteers can position themselves there safely. Do not expect volunteers to walk in road or put themselves at risk
• Nearby parking is available for volunteers and vehicles need to be out of line of vision of drivers
• There must be a safe place for signage approx. 100 meters in each direction?
Will speeding drivers caught by Speedwatch be prosecuted? No. They will receive a notification from the police showing date, time, location and speed etc. The police will visit persistent offenders,
